Rafael Nadal began his quest for a 12th French Open title, in the first round match he blasted Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets 6-2 6-1 6-3. Novak Djokovic too kicked off the tournament in style with an easy 6-4 6-2 6-2 win over Pole Hubert Hurkacz.
On the other hand, Serena Williams overcame a wobbly start in the first set and grabbed the match with a 2-6 6-1 6-0 victory against Russia’s Vitalia Diatchenko.
